I have been wanting to reach out for a while now. I understood the message tonight and it touched me… I have just begun reading the bible about 3 weeks ago. I know I will keep reading until the end, but I feel so lost, like I don’t understand so much. I also see so much violence… between sacrifices, rape, murder… My husband and I are reading/listening to the bible together and doing our best to receive what we are supposed to in this journey. I am wanting, needing and desiring the relationship with God that I am intended to. Even now I can’t find the words that are in my heart right now – all I know is I am seeking…

Jenifer, good for you! You guys keep reading (I recommend you start at the beginning: Genesis). There are many things that happen as a result of the sin that is in this world at the moment, and some things just are not explained. But when you read the whole story, you see a God who is willing to move heaven and hell itself to have a relationship with us, who was willing to even sacrifice His only Son for us.

Ten years ago I woke up one morning; my husband did not, and suddenly I was a widow and our 4 year old son was fatherless. But I KNOW God loves me and has plans for me (Jeremiah 29:11-14), so though I can’t see the whole picture, I can trust His heart. The last several chapters of Genesis (chap. 37-50) focus on the life of Joseph, son of Jacob. He was kidnapped, sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused of attempted rape, imprisoned, and totally forgotten. Then in one day, after many years of wrongful treatment, he was brought out of prison and made second in charge of the most powerful nation on earth. When he is reunited with his brothers, he forgives them, because he saw how what they had intended for evil, God used for good.

When men turn their backs on the God of Israel, they also turn their backs on many of His blessings and open themselves up to terrible consequences for themselves and those around them. As our country’s leaders turn their backs on the God of the Bible, this country will reap the results of our rulers’ poor choices. Repentant hearts returning to loving obedience will change that, though. I can’t change my rulers’ hearts, but I can accept responsibility for changing mine, so that’s where each of us can start. And since I love my Lord, I will seek to obey His instructions.

So keep read His instruction book: the Bible.

      Blessings to you!
