What’s Haunting You?

Well, here we are on All Hallows’ Eve! And, while I wouldn’t consider myself a fan of the holiday, I thought today would be the perfect chance to visit with you about fear.

What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of starting your own business? How about losing your income? A rift in your relationships?

The worst part is, if you are afraid of something, it can literally stop you from moving forward and paralyze you in your tracks. Fear shuts down the circuitry in your brain. It is a biological response that will actually force you to freeze up. If you feel stuck right now in your life, it is likely because a fear of something is keeping you there.

But instead of overcoming fear, too many people defend it. You think to yourself, “it isn’t so bad here, stuck in this same ol’ hole.” And then you settle for it!

Fear is meant to be a defense mechanism for your body, telling your brain that you are in imminent danger. But in most cases, fear is a lie. If you ask someone out on a date and they say no, people feel the hurt of that rejection and some are too afraid to ever do it again. Or, you apply for your dream position and then don’t get it, leading you to just stay stuck in your rut. Does any of this sound familiar?

Fear should not determine how you live your life or make your decisions. It really IS all in your mind. As a man thinks, so he is. What you think, you speak, and what you speak, you believe, and what you believe, you will receive.

I know that last sentence sounds like a load of gibberish but look at it this way. If you are afraid of something, you speak it. “No, I won’t do that because I’m going to fail.” Once you’ve spoken it, you believe it.

It is okay to be afraid, we all have past experiences of failure, mistakes and hurt. But it is not okay to let fear control you or keep you where you are! The truth is, what you feed will flourish, and what you neglect will die. Your fears will grow or shrink, depending on what you choose to focus on. You must choose to starve your fear and feed your faith. You were not meant to live in fear, worry and anxiety. You were meant to live a faith-filled life, an adventurous life, a life of freedom.

Today, I want you to ask yourself… what you are so afraid of? What would you do with your life if you knew you wouldn’t fail? If there were a 100% chance of success! Fear affects your decision-making, your confidence and your ability to reach your goals. Fear will keep you from taking risks. You might be limiting yourself without even realizing it!

But solid decision and swift action kill fear. Instead of spreading fear today, how about you spread this message? Leave your comments for me on what YOUR fear is and don’t forget to “Like” it.

Jot down a reminder to join me this Sunday night for The Dani Johnson Show at 9 pm ET/ 8 pm CT and become a part of a community that isn’t afraid anymore!

In great faith,
