Do you have a child in the public or even private school system right now? If so, you might be struggling – along with many Americans – to prepare your kids for success.

The truth is, there are so many things they will never learn in the school system that are essential to becoming financially independent, creating strong relationships and even pursuing a career. For all the hours and years your kid will spend in school, they will never learn entrepreneurial skills. They will not even learn how to balance their checkbook!

According to the Common Core State Standards, “The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.”

Do you believe schools today are succeeding or failing in meeting this standard? If those truly are the goals of education, how can business (which is what drives the economy) garner so little attention in America’s primary education system?

A report from McKinsey and Company stated despite sustained unemployment, employers find it difficult to hire Americans with the skills their jobs require and actually expect this problem to get bigger! The Conference Board found nearly half of employers who hire high school graduates said overall job preparation was deficient.

The current system is CLEARLY not working. There is a huge need in the marketplace that is not being met! Why? Because we are relying on a system not built to produce unique, well-rounded, self-sufficient, highly-educated people who will contribute to society and succeed financially, relationally, in business, career, and family.

If you’re a parent, consider what you think is essential to help your kids succeed. I guarantee those topics won’t be covered in a public school. Which makes it your responsibility!
