Business Tips So Easy A 12-Year-Old Gets it
Earlier this month, Fox News picked up a story about 12-year-old Katie Francis shattering the 30-year record for selling the most Girl Scout cookies. How did she do it?
Sadly, most people will fight harder to avoid LOSING something, than they will to gain something of EVEN GREATER VALUE…but you can’t reach a higher or better place, if you’re afraid of losing what you’ve GOT!
Today, let’s talk about one mistake that could be costing you thousands (or even millions) of dollars! This one little thing could cause you to lose clients, lose business partners, lose money… and even lose relationships. It can trigger the loss of the very things you worked so hard to get.
This particular mistake is so easily overlooked, you probably don’t even realize you’re doing it. (And if you don’t know it, you can’t fix it!) If you’re afraid of losing something – business, relationships, money, your job – you’re looking in the wrong direction and your focus is in the wrong place.
Sadly, most people will fight harder to avoid losing something, than they will to gain something of even greater value. But you cannot reach a higher or better place, if you’re afraid of losing what you’ve got.
I can tell you this, because I made this extremely costly mistake early in my career – and boy, talk about consequences! So let me save you a lot of work and heartache, by presenting you with a more productive mindset.
The Law of Focus says whatever you focus on, is what you get good at. Whatever you focus on, you get more of.
If you’re busy focusing on the clients you’re afraid will go elsewhere, the money you’re afraid you won’t make, the job you’re afraid of losing, or the behavior issues of your kids, then you’re NOT focusing on the clients you have, the money you are making, the job you should be working with excellence and diligence, or grooming your children for success.
You cannot focus on the positive and the negative simultaneously, just as you cannot look north and south at the same time. So stop focusing on what’s wrong, what’s not happening fast enough or what could be better. Start focusing on what’s going right, what’s growing and the results you are producing.
Don’t focus on the nine people who said “No”… focus on the one who said “YES!” Celebrate that success and let it spur you on to your next accomplishment. What you feed, will flourish and what you neglect, will die.
