Are You In A Dysfunctional Relationship with Your Finances?
If you don’t realize you are in a relationship with your money, you probably aren’t treating it right.
Can you believe it’s already November and another year is almost over?! While we may really try to enjoy each day and its unique moments, no matter what we do, time seems to just race by and here we are again, about to say goodbye to 2013.
When we’re kids, the years positively dragged by, with what felt like an eternity between holidays, summer vacation and birthdays. Believe it or not, this is not just an illusion… there really IS a reason why we perceive time differently when we’re young!
Someone pointed out to me a tiny piece of information, that on the surface makes perfect sense, but rarely occurs to most of us. You see, when we’re 5 years old, one year represents ONE-FIFTH of our entire life — so the time it takes for just one year to pass, really can seem like forever!
Now, let’s take a sixty-year-old and apply this same principle. For someone who is 60, one year can feel like it’s racing by because it is now only 1/60th of their life. Compared to that five-year-old kid, 1/5th of their life would be 12 YEARS! Which brings us to the increased sense of urgency many feel as they begin to approach the traditional retirement age.
Who knows, you may have a hefty nest-egg squirreled away, growing daily and waiting for you when you decide it’s time to step away from your work. Or maybe you’re living paycheck-to-paycheck and fearing that day when you can no longer work.
In an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released just a few weeks ago, some 82% of American workers 50 and older say it is at least somewhat likely they will work for pay in retirement. And 47% of them now expect to retire later than they previously thought — on average nearly three years beyond their estimate when they were 40.
Are you among these growing numbers? Does the thought of retirement terrify you? Have you been able to adequately prepare for your “golden years”? Do you honestly believe “the government” is going to take care of you for the next 20, 30 or 40 years?!
Social Security can no longer be counted on to provide that sense of, well, security for millions of Americans. Yes, I said MILLIONS because every day approximately 10,000 Baby Boomers reach retirement age… yep, EVERY DAY! And they will continue to do so for almost two more decades.
It’s time for you to take control of your own retirement destiny! And, regardless of how long you have delayed, of how little you’ve saved or even how young (or young-at-heart) you might be, it’s never too late or too early for you to have the retirement of your dreams.
Take this opportunity to take that first step… it’s the hardest thing to just make that decision. Once you’ve set your mind to it, nothing can stand in your way! I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself. Take your retirement into your own hands! I’m here to help, along with the whole Dani Johnson community.
And, start this discussion with your kids today… if they start saving just one dollar a week when they’re little, they can retire as MILLIONAIRES! Open a dialogue with your friends and coworkers and help them, too. Don’t forget to leave me your comments below, and be the first to share this retirement approach on Facebook and Twitter.
If all this has left you feeling a bit unsettled, join me this Wednesday evening for my Spiritual Equipping Broadcast and gain some inner peace. Gather your friends and family and meet me on your TV, radio, smartphone or computer!
In great faith,
