As we approach the end of our first quarter in 2017, it’s time to review your performance over the past several months.

Trust me, this will be very simple, but so powerful!

Review these tips for promotion and see what you could be doing to increase your value, as we get ready to head into the second quarter!

1. Ask yourself this question: “Do I contribute to my work environment, do I take away from my work environment or am I a neutral factor?” If you contribute, your employer will do whatever it takes to keep you. If you cause problems, they can’t wait to let you go. If you go unnoticed and do nothing to separate yourself from the crowd, they won’t lose any sleep over letting you go. How did you perform in this area during the first quarter?
2. Don’t over-promise and under-deliver! This drives employers CRAZY! When your boss gives you a task or project with a deadline, make sure you fulfill your commitment. Don’t wait until the deadline, to inform your supervisor or manager a problem arose. Come to them immediately and let them know. You both have the same goal – finishing the task successfully – so they will be willing to give their advice, opinion or suggestions. Evaluate yourself: Have you over-promised and under-delivered?
3. Kiss your bad attitude goodbye! People like to be treated with respect. They like smiles and hearing “thank you” and “please.” They like to be honored. Even if you’re going through something difficult in your personal life, leave your problems at home! Have you had a good attitude throughout this quarter?

While this is certainly not a comprehensive self-evaluation, it IS a good place to start! If you are spot-on in these three areas, you could very well be on the fast-track to promotion!
