I have a question for you today. Who makes more money — a general M.D. or a brain surgeon? The brain surgeon, of course. Why? Not because of his looks, personality, skin color, religion or family background. It’s because he has specialized skills.
Even if the general M.D. has an amazing bedside manner and the brain surgeon is cold and insensitive, the brain surgeon will still make more money because he has a higher skill set. He has invested more time and money into increasing his skills than the general M.D. did.
And it works the exact same way for you. It’s the Law of Value: The marketplace pays for value, and the only thing that determines your value is your skill set.
Become the employee EVERYONE wants to promote!
What if, instead of begging for a raise or hoping for a promotion, your boss was chasing you down and offering huge raises, promotions and bonuses? Discover how YOU can become the employee everyone wants to promote!
You are in control of your skills. And the fact that you are here reading The Daily Fix right now shows you are doing what you can to increase your skills. So, congratulations! I am proud of you for taking this first step.
I want you to ask yourself a question right now. In fact, it’s a good question to ask yourself every day. "How can I increase my value at work today?"
- Communication: You can make yourself incredibly valuable to your boss, co-workers and clients by increasing your communication skills.
- Become a problem-solver: You are not paid to just show up to work every day. You are paid to solve problems. When you are an excellent problem-solver, you become a go-to person for your boss, co-workers and clients. This dramatically increases your value, and you become indispensable to your company.
- Influence your environment: The people who positively influence their environment are the ones who get promoted. If you walk into your workplace with no energy and no smile, it shows others you don’t want to be there. But if you light up the room and make people feel special and important, people want to have you around. You actually help change the entire environment by simply having a good attitude.
- Focus: When you have laser-focus on whatever is in front of you, you have high value. Most people split their focus between 4 or 5 different things at a time and call it "multi-tasking." But wherever there is intensifying focus, you will get more results. That’s why it’s so important to cut out distractions and focus on the task at hand.
There are so many more I could give you. But this is a great place to start. Ask yourself, "What can I do to increase my value at work today?" Take these 4 tips into your workplace, and you will see results.
Remember, the higher your skill sets, the higher your pay and the faster you will be promoted. You are improving your skills and specializing your skills in an area that will lead you to success instead of down the path of mediocrity today.
Please take just a moment now to share this message with your friends, family and coworkers. These 4 tips will encourage, motivate and inspire those who receive them, and it will be because you were generous enough to share it. You can forward the email, post this link on social media, or even print it out and actually pass it around today.
