Have you ever wanted to quit? Either on your marriage, career, goals, dreams, financial independence, love, ministry or kids, you just reach a point where you want to scream, “I can’t take it anymore!”
And sometimes, other people even lead you down that path: “You deserve more”… “You can do better”… “You shouldn’t be treated that way.” Oh man, I have been there many times! But, did you know, even God has wanted to quit before?
Have You Reached Your Breaking Point?
Nobody has completely escaped struggle, pain and frustration. But, you can discover what to do to convert those hard seasons of life into successful,
victorious encounters, and how to minimize your times of hardship.
“Then the Lord spoke to Moses, ‘Go down at once, for your people, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them. They have made for themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it and have sacrificed to it and said, “This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt!”’ The Lord said to Moses, ‘I have seen this people, and behold, they are an obstinate people. Now then let Me alone, that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them; and I will make of you a great nation.’” (Exodus 32:7-10)
Israel committed adultery and God was angry and ready to be done with all of it! But Moses actually reminded him of His goal, His character and His promise to His people.
“Turn from Your burning anger and change Your mind about doing harm to Your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ So the Lord changed His mind about the harm which He said He would do to His people.” (Exodus 32:12-14) Moses held God accountable! That is some crazy courage. In fact, there are many examples of people in the Bible who reach their breaking point. Reading of them so convicts my soul.
- Jesus reached that point, as well! After being horribly beaten, sweating blood, He reached a place where He couldn’t take it anymore.
- King David wanted to quit after his father-in-law tried to kill him, his daughter was raped, his sons murdered and he was hunted by full armies!
- Elijah wanted to quit and fled for his life after defeating 850 false prophets in battle. Fear can certainly be a big motivator to quit!
Sure, I’ve wanted to quit before; I have reached that point emotionally, physically or spiritually when I thought I couldn’t go on. But I have not faced even an ounce of the stress, pain and tribulations that God, or these successful kings, endured. I’m a wimp compared to them.
My friend, the Bible tells us to persevere! “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” (James 1:12)
You and I, we must stand on Him and be led by His Spirit, if we are going to endure to the end. Wherever you are today, I hope this encouraged you to remain strong through the trials in your life. Even when you want to quit! “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) Leave me your comments below and let’s all do our part in encouraging one another by Liking and Sharing today’s message.
