Your Drama Acts Out Your Priorities
Our world is so hostile and so full of drama queens, kings, hotheads and people who lose it in times of crisis. The problem is, overreacting is unproductive.
Have you ever wanted to start your own business? Being your own boss is truly rewarding, but stepping out on your own is also a little intimidating, right? It’s true… starting your own company takes a huge amount of faith and bravery. You don’t know if you’re going to succeed or maybe you think you just aren’t cut out for it! What if you’re making a big mistake?
Recently, I talked with a woman named Kim, who started her own business 3 years ago. She told me, “I’ve made tons of mistakes!” Her family has been pretty negative, telling her to quit or to give it up. But she has the mindset she is going to make this work, regardless of whatever changes she needs to make. She plugs-in to classes, listens to our daily show, improves her skill sets and just now is starting to see a turnaround.
There’s an important lesson in Kim’s story: there are always naysayers, in every business. Actually, it isn’t just in business. Think about anytime someone tries a new diet or meets a new person they swear is “the one.” There is always at least one person saying, “This isn’t going to work for you,” or “You’ve tried like 20 other diets, I don’t see how this one is any different.”
If you don’t have any naysayers, that probably means you’re doing something wrong! Because when you step-up and start doing something differently, people will take notice. If you aren’t making waves, you aren’t doing enough or stepping-out enough.
It is so easy to listen to the naysayers! Especially if you start something and don’t immediately see the results you had planned. In fact, most people quit before they see the kind of success they’re looking for.
When it comes to being profitable, experts say most businesses don’t see a profit for their first 5 years! So as a business person you need to think, “Okay, I have 5 years to try every avenue, path or strategy to make this thing work.” It’s important to make investments into your skills and your business. And after 5 years, if it still isn’t profitable, maybe you sit down and reevaluate your plan.
Have you ever heard of the company, Zappos? Recently I read how their company did not show a profit for 10 years! And now, Zappos is hugely popular. But it took 10 years of failing, making mistakes, refining their business plan and increasing their skill sets. Now they’re a rip-roaring success!
Look, if you want to start a business but you’re afraid to fail, that’s alright. The truth is, honestly, you will fail! I can promise you will make mistakes, lose money, choose the wrong direction. Because everyone who has ever started their own company has been there.
Don’t be afraid of the mistakes. Don’t be afraid if you aren’t turning profit or seeing results overnight! Focus on investing your time into increasing your skill sets, fixing those mistakes and finding solutions.
The biggest mistake you can ever make is not starting at all. If you’re letting that fear prevent you from going after something set in your heart to accomplish, that is your greatest failure!
Just know it is okay to make mistakes and it’s possible to fail big time and still become successful. Instead of living in fear, start living the life you were destined for. Are you ready? Have you ever felt like you and your spouse just aren’t on the same page? The reality is, you and your spouse won’t always be on the same page. But you’re still on the same team. Especially when it comes to money!
