Wanna Grow Your Paycheck? Grow Your SKILLS!

The marketplace pays for value and the primary thing determining your value is your skill set. So, ask yourself: "What can I do to increase my value at work today?"

I have a question for you: Who makes more money, a general M.D. or a brain surgeon? The brain surgeon, of course. Why? Not because of looks, personality, skin color, religion or family background. It’s because of their specialized skills.

Even if the general M.D. has an amazing bedside manner, brain surgeons will still make more money because they have a higher skill set. They have invested more time and money into increasing their skills beyond those of a general M.D.

And it works exactly same way for you! It’s called the Law of Value, and bottom line, the marketplace pays for value. The primary thing determining your value is your skill set.

And the coolest thing… YOU control your skills! Plus, the fact you’re reading The Daily Fix right now shows you are investing in yourself and increasing your skills. Congratulations! I’m proud of you for taking this first step.

Now, take it further by asking yourself one question every single day, no matter your occupation, whether you’re an executive or stay-at-home parent. Get into the habit of evaluating yourself, by asking this question daily: “How can I increase my value today?”

And to get you off on the right foot, check out several ways to increase your value every day:

  • Improve your communication skills. You can make yourself incredibly valuable to your boss, coworkers, clients, family and community members by increasing your communication skills.
  • Become a problem-solver. You are not paid to just “show up” for work every day. You are paid to solve problems. When you are an excellent problem-solver, you become the go-to person for your boss, coworkers and clients. This dramatically increases your value… making you indispensable to your company.
  • Influence your environment. The people who positively influence their environments, are the ones who get promoted. If you walk into work with no energy or smile, it clearly says you don’t want to be there. But if you light up the room and make people feel special and important, people want to have you around. You actually help change the entire environment by simply having a good attitude… AGAIN, making you extremely valuable!
  • Focus. When you have a laser-focus on whatever is in front of you, you increase your value – taking it to a much higher level! Most people split their focus between four or five different things at a time, calling it “multi-tasking.” But wherever you intensify your focus, you get more results. That’s why it’s so important to eliminate distractions and focus on the task at hand.

There are so many more I could give you, but this is a great place to start. Ask yourself, “What can I do to increase my value at work today?” Take these four tips into your workplace, and you will see results!

Remember, the higher your skill sets, the higher your pay and the faster you will be promoted. By applying these four specific tips today, you specialize your skills in an area leading to success, instead of down the path to mediocrity.

Please take just a moment now to share this message with your friends, family and coworkers. These four tips will encourage, motivate and inspire those who receive them, and it will be because you were generous enough to share! You can forward the email, post this link on social media, or even print it out and actually pass it around your office today! Then, please leave me your thoughts on The Daily Fix today below.
