Keep Your Cool, Keep Your Relationships
Have you ever been in the midst of a bad situation and ended up responding the wrong way? Looking back, did you wish you handled it better?
Today, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Do you remember a particular class in school that was just so pointless? Or maybe even a job training where you sat bored, thinking, “This is all just common sense!”
Once your brain has decided you know everything, it tends to turn off. Everything you hear after that is just, “Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.”
At our live events, I see people tune out from time-to-time. I reach a area they don’t think needs improvement in their lives, so they just sort of zone out… thinking it’s just common sense or something not relevant to their life.
Or even worse, they reach a point where they think my lack of education, my beliefs or my gender, means I no longer have any relevant knowledge to share.
The problem with this mental track is, you are inhibiting your own growth! When you think you already know everything, you will never learn anything.
And when you are unteachable, you are frustrating yourself and other people.
I promise you, your employer or your clients are definitely frustrated with you, if you have this attitude. And I guarantee your business is, or soon will be, stagnant or in decline.
Because if you are not constantly growing, learning and adding to your skill sets, you are not going anywhere.
Listen friend, you need to weigh your ego against your bank account. Everybody has made this mistake; everyone at some point thought they knew-it-all or some lesson wasn’t relevant to their life. But what matters more, your success or your ego?
The proof is in your results. If your bank account isn’t looking too hot, that’s a pretty good indication your ego is filled to the brim. If you’re relationships aren’t sizzling, it probably means your ego is sun-bathing on the beach having a good ol’ time. Do you hear what I’m saying?
If you want to grow, if you want to make more money, have better relationships, get promoted – never stop being teachable.
The people who continue to do better, are the people who are constantly adding new skill sets and always learning. Are you still learning or have you become unteachable? Let me know in your comments below and be sure to Like and Share today’s message.
